Natural Products Research

NIS Labs specializes in natural products research. Our scientists help you through the process of bringing a research foundation to your marketing claims. We work with you from the initial concept development through protocol design, lab research, clinical studies, and writing.

Efficient Research Strategies

You may know what marketing claims you hope to secure, or you may be on an open exploration, looking for specific mechanisms of action of a product. In both cases, a sequential strategy is ideal. Initial testing in a small panel of bioassays helps identify directions for further research. This could include a more comprehensive examination of the effects of a product on antioxidant protection, immune modulation, and cellular viability and metabolism using laboratory bioassays. Clinical studies can then be undertaken with guidance from lab results, to evaluate specific effects in humans.

Test Matrices (List of Tests)

The list of tests provided here serves to illustrate some possibilities of creating packages in certain areas of health, such as antioxidants, immune support, or vascular health. Whether the goal is to protect a specific marketing claim, to generate marketing material and press releases, or to publish in the peer-reviewed medical literature, we can help you construct packages for those purposes.

Our goal is to help build focused research programs for companies in the Natural Products Industry, both through the process of building a foundation, and ensuring the optimization of research dollars spent.

Cell-based/in vitro: Testing of mechanisms of action in panels of cellular and/or enzymatic assays

Clinical/in vivo: Testing of immediate and/or long-term effects upon consumption

Tools for Product development, Generating Product Claims

The test panel can help in the due diligence of product development, both during the formulation process and in the selection of suppliers for specific ingredients. This may include testing of those ingredients which work synergistically to optimize a blend, or which supplier has the most active ingredient. We offer these tests as individual tests, both in vitro and in vivo.  The tests are also applicable  for building comprehensive research programs to assist in developing and/or validating product claims.
