Mitochondria produce energy for most nucleated cells. Loss of mitochondrial function is linked to metabolic dysfunction, Type II diabetes, obesity, and cardiovascular disease, as well as several degenerative illnesses, including Alzheimer’s dementia.
Oxidative damage as a result of inflammation contributes to decline in mitochondrial function. Measuring a natural product’s protective effect on mitochondria in the absence versus presence of oxidative stress would add a mechanism of action that is a key element for many aspects of preventive health.
