01-02 Clinical Study on Inflammation

A research study is being conducted to assess the effect of several nutritional supplements on vascular function and inflammation.

The study involves one 1-hour visit to the clinic.

In the clinic, non-invasive laser Doppler probes will be taped to both forearms using double-sided tape. Vascular function will be recorded. The probes will be removed, and either salt water or a natural product will be applied to the skin. The probes will be re-attached and recording continued for 20 minutes. Probes wi01-02ll be moved to another area of skin on the forearm and vascular function recorded. Probes will be removed and an irritant is applied to the skin for 1 minute, followed by a small scratch in the surface of the skin. Either saline or a natural product is applied for 1 minute. Probes are re-attached and recording is continued for 20 minutes.

The irritant is Histamine, which is the same irritant used as a positive control during allergy skin testing. The dose we use is 10-50 times less than the dose used for allergy testing.
